PetSmart Charities Welcomes into National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition
PetSmart Charities was recently named a partner in the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition (NARSC). A 501(c)6 organization founded in 2006, NARSC developed after the weather disasters of 2005 when storms such as Katrina devastated the lives of more animals and people than at any other time in United States history.
Since Katrina, the organizations of NARSC have faced crises and large-scale incidents in addressing ongoing concerns. The coalition is comprised of national animal protection organizations and represents over 15 million animal care and control professionals, volunteers, and pet owners. Coalition member agencies respond both nationally and internationally to wildfires, floods, ice storms, tornados, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. In addition, the coalition addresses “man-made” disasters like puppy mills and hoarders.
Della Maddalena, executive director of PetSmart Charities, Inc., shared, “We're honored to be included in this coalition of top-level animal rescue professionals. We're honored to be included in this coalition of top-level animal rescue professionals.”
As a part of the PetSmart Charities efforts, emergency funding and supplies for pets affected by large-scale natural and man-made disasters has helped to the tune of $7.4 million in emergency relief grants since 2004. Trading as PETM, through its in-store pet adoption partnership with PetSmart Charities(R), PetSmart has helped save the lives of more than 4.5 million pets.
"PetSmart Charities has been at the forefront of assisting animals in need; working with both local and national animal welfare organizations for years," reported Sandy Monterose, NARSC Chairperson. "We are extremely pleased to officially welcome them to the National Animal Rescue and Sheltering Coalition."
