Pet Health Insurance Provider Becomes First to Cover New Category
The second largest pet insurance provider in the United States, Trupanion, has announced it will now offer therapeutic and preventative pet foods and nutritional supplements for pets as part of their core coverage benefit. These benefits will be available to current and future policyholders of Trupanion.
The coverage will include the cost of the therapeutic pet food for two months along with the cost of dietary supplements that are recommended by the veterinarian. Therapeutic pet foods and nutritional supplements are defined as those that are believed to improve the health of pets affected by a host of ailments, including skin and/or joint problems. Prior to allowing this category inclusion, pet owners were responsible for the costs on their own.
Darryl Rawlings, Chief Executive Officer at Trupanion, reported, “We want to be able to give pet owners every opportunity to afford the very best care for their pets. Adding these new benefits to our coverage is just the next step in our continual effort to improve our offering while maintaining the best value in the market.”
Additionally, Trupanion has entered into an agreement with Hill’s Pet Nutrition by offering a complete line of therapeutic and wellness foods such as the Hill’s Prescription Diet pet foods and Science Diet Healthy Advantage pet food.
“We listen to pet owners and veterinarians every day and evaluate policy improvements on a regular basis,” said Rawlings. “We look forward to announcing more benefits to our coverage in the near future.”
Trupanion offers both cat and dog insurance throughout the United States and Canada. Trupanion is self-underwritten by the American Pet Insurance Company. More information may be found at www.trupanion.com.
