Founded in 1994 by Patti Moran, Pet Sitters International (PSI) is the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters and represents nearly 7,000 member businesses in the United States, Canada, and abroad.
PSI president Patti Moran stated, “This is a thriving service industry. Those who are succeeding in it have business savvy, maintain their educational credentials and work hard to deliver exceptional service at a competitive price.”
Within the data of the report, it is revealed that the pet sitting industry is well-primed for growth in 2012. In 2010, the survey revealed that member businesses performed over 18.5 million pet-sitting services, which rose from 17.4 million pet-sitting visits in 2007.
The data gleaned from the report is encouraging to current and would-be pet-industry entrepreneurs seeking success in the pet-care services field. Further, the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that the employment of animal care and service workers will grow much faster than average over the 2008-2018 decade.
The 2012 Pet-Sitting Industry Forecast relies on results from PSI’s 2011 State of the Industry Survey, the association’s collective intellectual capital and knowledge from its seventeen-year history in business, all considered solid market research. The survey was also conducted in conjunction with PSI’s almost 7,000 member businesses.
