Cesar Millan Show Being Shopped To United States Networks
Following the successful launch of Cesar Millan’s Spanish-language television show, El Lider de la Manada in Spain, a new English-language version of the show is currently being shopped around to a variety of United States television networks.
El Lider de la Manada translates in English to The Leader of the Pack and premiered on Spain’s Cuatro network to over 1.4 million viewers, or about five times the average viewership for The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan on the same network.
The television show The Dog Whisperer, which is Millan’s brainchild, airs in over 109 countries. The show is slated to begin airing its eighth season in early 2012 on Nat Geo WILD channel exclusively. The series first premiered in 2004 with half hour episodes and expanded to one hour segments in 2005. In the show, Millan offers dog owners suggestions for become a pet’s pack leader by using a variety of techniques incorporating exercise, discipline, and affection.
The Spanish launch of El Lider de la Manada fast tracked an English language version and is slated to begin shooting 12 episodes in April of 2012 for a December 2012 premiere on a United States television network. The agency WME signed Millan in 2011 and also is a rep for PowWow Media, which produces the show with Notro RV.
In each episode of El Lider de la Manada, Millan rehabilitates a homeless or abandoned dog and matches it with one of three contestants who compete to provide the dog with the best possible home. Millan is also developing two television specials to air in the United States over the next year.
