True Blood Actress Signs on to Help WSPA in Collars Not Cruelty Campaign
Actress Kristin Bauer, best known for her role as vampire Pam in the hit series True Blood, recently announced her support for the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) Collars Not Cruelty campaign.
The WSPA launched the Collars Not Cruelty campaign on World Rabies Day, September 28, 2011, with the announcement of a project in Bangladesh to support the national government implementing large scale vaccination in Cox’s Bazar. The project has since finished and will save thousands of dogs in its first year and lead the way for a nationwide vaccination campaign. The dogs in Bangladesh will be given red collars so the communities know they are safe from rabies.
In a statement from Ray Mitchell, International Campaigns Director, WSPA, it was revealed, “I was absolutely shocked when I heard that governments around the world are resorting to poisoning, shooting or gassing dogs as a way to try and prevent the spread of rabies. It's so important to spread the word about WSPA's effective and humane alternative solution – mass vaccination – so that this horrible cruelty ends.”
Bauer is currently filming the fifth series of True Blood and is the second celebrity to support WSPA’s Collars Not Cruelty campaign, with singer Leona Lewis signing on to launch the campaign in September.
The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) seeks to create a world with animal welfare mattering and where animal cruelty has ceased. Active in over 50 countries, the WSPA holds consultative status at the Council of Europe and collaborates with national governments and the United Nations.
