September Morn began training dogs at age seven and found it so much fun that she never stopped.
In her 20s, she owned and bred German Shepherds, training and showing them in both conformation and obedience. Obedience training was the most fun for September, and her dogs achieved many AKC Obedience titles. After titling her dogs, September began her lifelong career as a professional dog trainer, specializing in solving behavior problems.
September wrote and self-published her first dog training book in the mid-1980s. This self-published book, Dogs Love To Please – We Teach Them How, concentrated on ways to train dogs more gently than was common in that era. Her book made it to Amazon’s bestseller list. She self-published several short books after that, and also started a newsletter, Fetch The Paper, which bloomed into a magazine with subscribers in every state of the USA and many other countries as well. “Fetch” and two of September’s short books, each received the prestigious “Maxwell” award for excellence in dog-writing from the Dog Writers Association of America.
Her successful self-publishing venture soon led to several “real” publishers inviting September to write for them. As the “Ask Dog Fancy” columnist in Dog Fancy magazine for many years, September answered behavior questions from dog owners. After Dog Fancy phased out that column, the publisher (BowTie Press) assigned September the honor of writing the “Ask The Trainer” question-and-answer column for their website, Dogchannel.com.
September has also had published seven other books and hundreds of articles about dogs and dog training, and, more recently, articles about chickens, gardening, and original recipes.
When not writing or training dogs, September tends a large organic garden and a small organic orchard on her five-acre hobby farm in western Washington, where she also keeps a flock of laying hens and several sheep.
