Vacationing dog owners who wish to have a pet sitter take care of their canine(s) while away will soon have access to a local pet sitting service matching service via Facebook.
Founded by a team of dog lovers, Stayhound is touted as a social media resource available in Portland, Oregon, and targeted at dog owners who want their pets left in the care of a reliable, safe pet sitter. The goal is to connect pet parents with responsible pet sitters.
Stayhound requires users log on through Facebook, which makes this service unique to finding a match. Once on the Stayhound Facebook page, the social context of all community members is visible, raising an accountability level of its members. Pet parents can view pet sitters in their area, read user reviews, and check if there is any availability.
Pet sitters are responsible for rate setting and all transactions will be handled between pet owners and pet sitters. The site is currently in its beta version. Future plans include an online payment facility and a goal of trustworthy pet care providers. The implementation of user ratings and comments means sitters have an accountability factor.
