Larimer Humane Society in Colorado is preparing to issue its 50,000th pet license sold this fiscal year in the coming days, marking the highest number of pet licenses issued in one year in Larimer County.

To commemorate this achievement, the humane society will issue a special gold-plated "lifetime" license to the cat or dog whose owners purchase the 50,000th tag. The pet's owner will also receive a commemorative plaque and two complimentary tickets to the shelter's upcoming Top Cat & Tails gala on Oct. 21.

The license will be valid for the remainder of the pet's life, provided that he or she remains a resident of Larimer County and up-to-date on her/his vaccinations.

"We're excited to issue the 50,000th license sold this year," and would like to thank all pet owners currently in compliance with the law," said Bill Porter, Director of Animal Protection and Control for Larimer Humane Society. "License fees pay for 24-hour emergency medical treatment for injured, stray animals; stray animal rescue; animal cruelty and abuse investigations; shelter for stray animals; protection from aggressive animals; and emergency wild animal rescue and rehabilitation."
