The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) recently acquired the assets of My Veterinary Career (MVC). The move comes in response to a reported 30 percent turnover rate in the veterinary profession.
“AAHA prides itself on remaining on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine and that means continually looking for innovative ways to serve our members so that they can better serve their patients and clients,” says Michael Cavanaugh, DVM, DABVP, AAHA chief executive officer and executive director. “Veterinary medicine continues to be plagued by high turnover rates. We know that turnover has many negative effects on a practice including the bottom line, the culture, patient care, and customer service.”
AAHA was formed in 1933 by members of the veterinary profession. Membership in AAHA is team focused, with every hospital staff member able to benefit from AAHA’s resources with one group membership. AAHA currently serves approximately 5,500 practice teams in the United States and Canada comprised of 50,000 individual vet care providers. It is estimated that nearly 3,200 total practice teams are accredited.
“The MVC matchmaking process seeks to put veterinary professionals and practices together that have a high probability for a successful relationship,” says Cavanaugh. “That means finding a position where the recent graduate or experienced veterinarian, technician, or practice manager will not want to leave after the first year.”
Founded in 2008 by Stith Keiser, My Veterinary Career focuses on improving the veterinary workplace one match at a time by connecting veterinarians, practice managers and technicians with the right practice. Keiser is a former veterinary hospital administrator. MVC has expanded its team over the years and touts themselves on providing in-depth industry knowledge that allows them to make the right match based on personality, goals, communication style, and technical skills.
Financial terms of the deal were not revealed.
