Like humans, animals can suffer from an Alzheimer’s-like disease. The disease is known as Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome or CDS.
Dave Merrick, general manager of Quincy Animal Health is announcing their latest supplement, Neutricks. According to Merrick, Neutricks has been proven to aid in CDS cases. As more pets are entering old age, CDS is a growing occurrence.
Many of the dogs that are taken to clinics that have the symptoms of CDS are not properly treated. “The average practice has over three hundred patients with CDS, yet only thirty-five patients are being diagnosed,” says Merrick.
CDS symptoms include confusion when encountering familiar faces, barking at a wall, being unresponsive to commands, disorientation, sleep behavior changes.
Neutricks is a chewable supplement that uses a patented protein 'apoaequorin', a Calcium Binding Protein (CaBp) found in a certain species of jellyfish. As senior animals age their bodies stop producing CaBp’s and Neutricks helps to replace them.
“Neutricks is not only an advancement in the science of caring for our senior dogs but also represents an opportunity to create veterinary-client dialogue about geriatric symptoms that pet owners may overlook,” says Merrick.
