According to the AKC, the Boston Terrier has been nicknamed "the American Gentlemen" because of his dapper appearance, characteristically gentle disposition and suitability as companion and house pet.
In the small town of Ludlow, Massachusetts, a Boston terrier named Miles; lives up to the reputation of being quite dapper and sophisticated because Miles the Boston, has his own line of dog bed sheets called; Dogysheets.
Yes, you read it correctly, sheets for dog beds! On his blog; Dogytales, Miles, the Boston, snobbishly remarks "Sheets for dog beds? Why not? Would you sleep on your bed mattress without sheets?
This February the product was featured on MSNBC's Sunday morning business show called 'Your Business" great reviews from executives on the panel. Today, the product is sold on Asseenontv.com's website. Miles image is on the Ad for the product which he inspired and made him famous.
It all began a few years ago, when Miles inspired his owner, Maria Dias to make him his first set of sheets after she became frustrated by watching him sleep on the hard wood floor in the living room instead of in his dog bed.
"He hated his dog bed and rarely slept in it" Said Maria. "Yet, he'd sleep for hours on my bed. But he wouldn't just settle to sleep on top of the comforter, he'd actually pull back the covers with his front paws to lie down on the sheets. He'd often sneak into my daughter's and son's bedroom to do the same thing on their beds. We had to constantly monitor the bedroom doors to keep him out the room. I couldn't believe it when one day, I actualy found him sleeping in my bed with his head on my pillow and on my newly clean sheets that I'd I had just changed the bed with. That was the last straw." She said.
The next day, Maria made him his first Dogysheet for his bed on which he took a three hour nap. That same year Maria began selling the Dogysheets to friends and family and eventuly started a small online business at www.dogysheets.com.
But Miles isn't alone in his acquired taste for a nice clean bed. According to a survey of pet owners done by the American Pet Products Association, almost half of dogs in America sleep in their owner’s beds. This survey also found that 62% of small dogs, 41% of medium-sized dogs and 32% of large dogs sleep with their owners. The same survey found that 62% of cats sleep with their owners.
Maria insists the percentage is so high because pets love to sleep in a clean bed with sheets. She predicts that soon every dog in America will own a set of dog bed sheets. This trend is likely to catch on because today's pet owners spare no expense when it comes to pampering their famly pets. These owners spent over 40 billion dollars on pet products last year and the figure is expected to rise every year.
Maria said "Miles is on his way to stardom and I hope to make a commercial for DRTV using him as the main actor. He's always acted like he's a snobbish celebrity. He loves the finer things in life. He won't even drink water from his bowl without ice in it!"
Ice cubes for dogs? Could it be the next revolutionary pet product? Why not? You know come to think of it, I never drink water without ice either!?
