Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary wins $50,000 in Pepsi Contest
Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary located in Ill. recently won a national challenge sponsored by Pepsi. Throughout August, 2011, Pepsi held the “Pepsi Refresh Everything Project.” This national contest gave one grand prize winner $50,000.
“I devoted four hours a day during August to make sure people voted for us, loading the codes from the Pepsi product caps to the website,” owner Beth Randall said. “Each cap on a Pepsi product had a code people could e-mail 10 caps per day via e-mail I had people collecting caps all over the country.”
Critter Camp Exotic Pet Sanctuary is a sanctuary Randall founded in 2004. She cares for animals received to the sanctuary from all over the United States. The diligent owner always wanted a larger facility, so when the Pepsi challenge presented itself, she got busy trying to win so she could build a bigger facility.
Part of the challenge’s application process including specific goals outlining how the $50,000 would be used. Randall plans to use some of the winnings for animal care and the other part to purchase land. She wants to buy the land on US-20 between Freeport and Winnebago. Ideally, Randall is looking for two acres so that she can build an exotic animal structure to house up to 1,000 critters.
Money from the contest will help the small business owner buy the land. She now will be applying for grants and donations to assist in her efforts.
