The 17th Annual Top Dog Contest in Medina, Ohio kicked off recently with its customary goal in mind: to emphasize the importance of dog licenses, while getting the general public involved, said the town's auditor Michael E. Kovack.
Fourth-grade level students must write an essay explaining why their dog is the Top Dog in the county. Children may design art work for the project, but will be judged on the basis of their essays. Deadline for submission of an essay is Nov. 9.
The top five entries will receive dog licenses numbered 1-5 for their dogs for 2012. The Top Dog and the author will highlight the front cover of the Medina County Auditor’s dog licensing brochure for all of 2012. Every child who submits an essay will receive a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Northland Dairy Queen. Notices with the contest rules have been sent to all county elementary schools and can be mailed to anyone who requests one.
Dec. 1 marks the beginning of dog licensing season in Medina County and the Top Dog winners will be announced and awarded their prizes that day at a special Awards Ceremony at the county's administration building. License fees help support the Medina County Animal Shelter. For more information about the 17th Annual Top Dog Contest go to www.medinacountyauditor.org.
