The Nutro Company, a manufacturer of natural pet food products, will donate $1 million to the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SGF) over the next five years. The Nutro Company is also constructing a dog park area in the SDF National Training Center to allow the dogs space to run and relax while training. The training center will be completed in September 2012.
Founded in 1996, the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation (SDF) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization based in Ventura, Calif. that trains canines to help firefighters and other first responders find people buried alive in the wreckage of disasters. SDF rescues unwanted dogs from shelters across the country who undergo six months of training to help advance obedience skills, disaster search skills.
"The Nutro Company has been a supporter of the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation for over 13 years," says Debra Tosch, Executive Director of SDF. "We look forward to partnering with them over the next five years to ensure our dogs, their handlers and the National Training Center are in the best shape possible when disasters strike."
