While the Fourth of July remains a favorite holiday of many Americans, unfortunately it is also the number one day of the year for pets to go missing. Frightened dogs and cats will flee their homes during loud firework shows and celebrations.
HomeAgain, the well known “mirco-chipping” and pet retrieval service, uses their Pet Recovery Database, lost pet alerts to regional shelters, an emergency hotline, and travel assistance for pets found farther than 500 miles away from home. The company manages to return an astonishing 120,000 pets a year.
HomeAgain PetRescuers has launched a social media campaign called “Not Lost on You”, to remind pet owners of the dangers of Fourth of July festivities. They encourage pet enthusiasts to post the “Not Lost on You” flag on their Facebook pages and post Twitter updates with the hashtag #NLOY.
"We are asking the volunteer HomeAgain PetRescuers to spread the word through the 'Not Lost on You' campaign so families can celebrate with peace of mind knowing all members, including pets, are safe," said HomeAgain General Manager Gary MacPhee.
There are safety tips to follow over the holiday. Be sure to leave all the animals at home preferably in a quiet place, or leave a radio on to drown out the noise, lock all doors and windows so pets cannot escape, have collars with up-to-date tags and IDs, and consider subscribing to HomeAgain’s services.
