Top Dogs in the Industry Announce Third Annual Life-Saving National Pet Adoption Tour
North Shore Animal League America, the world's largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, National Mill Dog Rescue and FIDO Friendly Magazine, the travel and lifestyle publication for dog owners, are partnering for the third annual "Get Your Licks on Route 66 Tour", a national pet adoption tour that will travel the entire length of Route 66, over 3,200 miles between California and Illinois to raise awareness of the plight of homeless pets and vital services that participating animal shelter and rescue partners provide to their communities, and to engage pet lovers through special events.
This year, the Tour will utilize two Animal League Mobile Rescue and Adoption Units. The two Mobile Units will travel through 17 cities, partnering with local shelters and rescue groups across the nation.
The first Mobile Unit will begin its voyage from New York and arrive at the first pet adoption event in Flagstaff, Ariz. on Wednesday, September 7. It will then continue on Route 66 for nearly a month, traveling through 12 cities in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, and New York. The tour will culminate with Mutt-i-grees® Mania, a special Grand Finale adoption event in New York City on Sunday, September 25 at Hudson River Park, Pier 40.
The second vehicle is stationed in Colorado with the Animal League's shelter partner, National Mill Dog Rescue. This Mobile Unit will make its first pet adoption event on Wednesday, September 14 in Denver, Colo. The vehicle will travel through California conducting pet adoption events in Los Angeles, San Bernardino and San Francisco and completes its journey on Saturday, September 24 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
