Pepsi awards $10,000 grant to local pet rescue shelter
The 11th Hour Rescue shelter, located in Rockaway, N.J., announced that it recently won $50,000 from Pepsi on Tuesday. The soda giant named the non-profit no-kill animal rescue group as one of 10 winners of the Pepsi Refresh contest for July.
“It’s extremely ... exciting,” said Elyse Langsett, 11th Hour’s fundraising coordinator. “There was so much hard work that went into that.”
The rescue group in June applied to be one of roughly 250 projects — primarily charities — that sought grant funding from Pepsi. In order to win it, 11th Hour, or any group, needed people to enter numerical codes found under yellow Pepsi bottle caps onto the contest website. The top 10 entrants with the most codes entered on its behalf during July won. The group and its volunteers entered more than 500 sets of codes.
“We are looking to build a new kennel,” Langsett said of the facility it hopes to fund one day. She said 11th Hour has been trying to participate in any contest it can in order to win money.
