Mary Haight has been in animal welfare for more than 15 years. She authors DancingDogBlog and is the Founder of Animal Cafe, podcast central for interviews with people working to better the lives of animals. She is a writer for Be The Change for Animals, and a contributor to a monthly column on what’s been happening at Animal Café for BlogPaws.
Haight is also Vice President, Board of Directors, Lake Shore Animal Shelter, Chicago’s pioneer no-kill shelter, and serves as a board member at the Chicago Animal Shelter Coalition (CASA).
Haight grew up with cats, and later was drawn to horses and dogs. She started riding while working overseas for the Department of State and found her first dog in India. Seeing how horses in particular and animals in general were treated in other countries made her stop and think about the role of animals. Having seen the place of animals in cultures in England, Austria, India, Cyprus, and Nepal, she knew concern for animal welfare was something that would stay with her for life. Haight had no idea it would become a mission.
