New York Jet running back LaDainian Tomlinson has teamed with The American Heartworm Society on a public service announcement that educates pet owners about the dangers of heartworm disease.
Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by parasitic worms living in the arteries of the lungs and occasionally in the right side of the heart of dogs, cats and other species of mammals.
The 60-second PSA, which can be seen at www.heartwormsociety.org, was funded through an educational partnership with Banfield Pet Hospital, the world’s largest veterinary practice, and is being distributed to television and radio stations nationwide.
Tomlinson said he did the PSA “to help bring greater awareness to this topic and encourage pet parents to take the necessary steps to protect their pets from this terrible disease.”
