Petsmart Charities Inc. has teamed up with a local animal organization to jointly open a pet adoption center inside a Petsmart store.
As part of a new partnership with Bay Area Humane Society of Green Bay, Wis., nonprofit Petsmart Charities is funding all of the costs associated with building an adoption center inside the Green Bay Petsmart. Bay Area Humane Society will staff the adoption center.
This will be the fifth adoption center to open as a result of a joint effort between Petsmart Charities and a local animal organization. Petsmart Charities expects to have 10 of these adoption centers up and running by January 2012, said Michelle Thompson, Petsmart Charities communications manager.
A grand opening celebration for the Green Bay center is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, 2011. The new center will occupy about 1,900-square-feet of space inside the Petsmart store, which is not charging Bay Area Humane Society any rent.
The center will house more than 30 of Bay Area Humane Society’s adoptable dogs, cats, puppies and kittens at a time. About 25 pets are expected to be adopted from the new adoption center location every week.
