E-Government Goes to the Dogs with Online Pet Services
In Clark County, Ohio, the acceptance of online payments for dog tag registration has made big news – so much so that Clark County Auditor John Federer announced that beginning December 1, the county will begin taking the payments through the county auditor website.
“We received a number of e-mails and phone calls to our office from residents sharing how excited they were that the county is bringing this technology to them and how much more efficient and easier it is for people who have dogs to get them licensed,” Federer said. According to the county representatives, they are still in the process of selecting a vendor to supply the electronic payment method, and anticipate a final decision by mid-September.
With Clark County dog tag prices ranging from $20 to $200, payments are accepted online with an additional interchange fee added to the registration cost. Further, according to the auditor’s online application form, dog owners can currently complete the application process online, but payments must be sent manually to the auditor’s office.
In comparison, King County, Washington residents already have the option to pay for pet registrations and pet license renewals online while for other counties, pet services extend beyond paying for dog registrations online – examples include Morgan County, GA, where tips on emergency preparedness for pets during a disaster are outlined on their website, and Manatee County, Florida whose site depicts a list of stray or found dogs and cats in order to assist residents with finding a lost pet, or to find a pet to potentially adopt.
