Former Radio Sales Pro Opens P.U.P.S.
After 20 years in radio sales, where she was making at least $100,000 a year, Leslie Bowers has decided to leave that particular business and open P.U.P.S. or the "Pawsitively Unique Pet Shop" in Lewes, Del., where she expects sales of $250,000 for this year and a salary of about $20,000.
Starting out with a tiny 250-square-foot space and rent of $650 a month, Bowers took $10,000 from savings for inventory and overhead. Her husband, a television advertising salesman turned carpenter, handled the renovations.
P.U.P.S. products include pet apparel, toys, spa products, designer collars and beds. There is also a canine bakery community featuring Canine Canolli, Barkin' Biscotti, Pawcan Swirls and Tailbangers Cheddar Twists.
Bowers said P.U.P.S. also caters to cats with kitty treats, toys and designer collars. And there is always fresh water from the Barktini Bar. For more information about P.U.P.S. go to www.pupsoflewes.com.
