PetFinder.com has distributed a list of the most pet friendly airlines around. Oftentimes, pet parents can find it difficult to sort their way through the several airline policies and need to know the best options for traveling with their pets. PetFinder and their co-founder hope this list of airlines will help pet owners.
“As the proud parent of a huge pet family, I know how important it is to find a way for your pets to travel safely and comfortably with you, whether across the country or across the state,” said Betsy Banks Saul, the co-founder of Petfinder.com.“We hope that this list can be a resource for those traveling with pets this summer.”
Topping the list, Pet Airways was selected as the most pet-friendly overall and best for pets as well. Perhaps putting them at an advantage, Pet Airways is solely for pets, and the airline accommodates all sizes: cats, guinea pigs and dogs (of all sizes, including Great Danes).
JetBlue airlines received the Best Amenities for Pets (and Pet Parents) award by PetFinder. The pet-friendly airline’s amenities for pets include a pet carrier baggage tag, travel “petiquette” guide, and a comprehensive e-booklet with pet-friendly hotels.
The recipients of two awards, Frontier Airlines won Best for Transporting Pet Variety and Best for Flying Multiple Pets in Cabin. While Pet Airways allows pets of all sizes, Frontier at least allows pets of all kind, which includes: dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and even small household birds. Along with that, while Frontier only allows one pet per person on a flight, they will accommodate a total of 10 small pets if traveling in a group of 10.
Coming in fourth, PetFinder awarded WestJet with the Best for Budget-Conscious Consumers. Small dogs, cats, rabbits and birds may travel in cabin for $50 one way. An honorable mention in the same category, AirTran Airways allows dogs, cats and birds, depending on size, to fly in cabin for $69 each way.
Next time pet owners are at the airport navigating through airline policies and assuring their pet does not have a bottle of lotion with over 2 ounces of liquid, following this list may at least reassure them they made the right decision.
