PETCO Helps Hawaiian Humane Society Put Pet Adoption in High Gear
The Hawaiian Humane Society has started a program taking pets on the road, displaying pets ready to be adopted on the spot. Since the decision, results have been positive, and various locations are opening their doors to allow the humane society to adopt pets in their stores.
Mike McKenna’s Windward Ford has hosted an adoption event in his showroom three times over the past months, most recently last Sunday.
"Primarily it's something we like to do, and all of our employees; they're all involved," McKenna said.
According to those on hand at the event, most people came to the dealership to look at the pets available for adoption and few actually came for the cars.
Local PETCO locations have also begun hosting adoption events every Sunday for the Hawaiian Humane Society.
"We just started doing off-site adoption events at PETCO Kaneohe, so that's going to be every Sunday, and we've been doing events also at PETCO Kapolei on the other side every Saturday," said the Humane Society's Rachel Sussman. "We have a really good turnout. A lot of people are excited to see all the dogs we bring, and they're disappointed when we don't have enough."
Aside from the weekly PETCO off site adoption events, the next event the Hawaiian Humane Society has planned is scheduled for August 20 at Schofield Barracks, for military families looking to adopt.
