Helotes Humane Society, based in San Antonio, Texas, will launch a “black tie” adoption event, offering discounts on animals with dark or black coats. The event will begin during the San Antonio Pet Expo, July 23, and end in August.
All black dogs will have discounted adoption fees. Puppies will be only $100 and dogs over 1 year of age will be $50. All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed! All newly adopted black dogs will also come with a special goodie bag.
“Did you know that black dogs are often overlooked by prospective pet adopters?” asks HHS promoter Barbara Martino. “This phenomenon of being overlooked is known as Black Dog Syndrome. Their black faces get lost in the sea of faces of every hopeful dog abandoned or surrendered within a shelter. Black dogs may not photograph well or even view well, but they are sweet on the inside and beautiful on the outside.”
Visit the Helotes Humane Society website for more information. Also, dogs can be viewed on the adoption or meet them in person at the San Antonio Pet Expo on July 23.
