PetHub.com Ships New Collar that Links Pets to an Online Profile
Pet Hub, Inc., announced today its newest QR code pet tag solution in the form of a collar. A metal plate is etched with a barcode called a “quick response” or “QR” code that can be scanned by any iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Microsoft Windows Mobile, or any other smartphone device using free and widely available software.
“QR codes are becoming so prevalent that many smartphones are sold with scanning software already installed,” remarked Tom Arnold, founder of PetHub, Inc. “Because 40 percent of us have smartphones, your pet has a 1 in 2.5 chance of being scanned and helped immediately when it’s lost. Owners can modify what is displayed from their free account and include any information including multiple emergency contacts, current pet medications, dietary needs, and even medical insurance coverage,” added Arnold.
Only 3 percent of animals in the United States are micro chipped with 4 types of scanners used by veterinarians and shelters. The Humane Society of the United States cites that only 1 percent of cats and 12 percent of dogs are re-united with their families after reaching a shelter. Of those that don’t make it home, 50 percent go to new families with the remaining put to sleep.
PetHub.com’s goal is to get an animal home before it ever reaches a shelter. “Shelters have told us this would be a dream come true as they are typically lightly staffed by volunteers, under-funded, and eager to help protect animals,” concluded Arnold.
Until July 31, 2011, PetHub is offering its new “QR code scruff collars” for $14.95 plus shipping and handling. Washington state residents also pay sales tax. Starting August 1, the price increases to $24.95. Those interested in taking advantage of this offer can do so at http://PetHub.com/Get-Tagged.
