The annual Cat Writers Writing Conference will take place on November 2 and November 3 in Los Angeles, California. The conference is a part of the Cat Writers’ Association (CWA) and is open to anyone interested in pet writing.
Throughout its two days, professional seminars with nationally known speakers will be featured along with an awards banquet, networking, recognition, and being able to get together with editors, agents, peers, and sponsors, according to CWA.
The Cat Writers’ Association is a non-profit group and opens the conference to anyone interested in writing. As part of the weekend events, there will be a book signing party on Saturday, November. Some of the featured writers include Jackson Galaxy, star of Animal Planet's "My Cat from Hell,” who will be present to autograph his book, Cat Daddy. In addition, veterinarian Dr. Karen Halligan, author of Doc Halligan's "What Every Pet Owner Should Know," and Bob Walker, whose photo books highlight the home he and his wife transformed into The Cats' House, the ultimate kitty playground, will be there.
During the awards banquet, there will be a total of 21 awards given out for writing, broadcasting and graphic arts totaling $10,000. All events will take place at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel (Marriott). On Thursday evening, November 1, Pet Sitters International will sponsor an informal networking event with a light meal and sneak peek at all the goodies that attendees will receive.
Su Ewing, the Cat Writers’ Association President, shared that the conference is inexpensive because the speakers are not paid. The group was formed in 1992 and “an organization of professionals writing, publishing and broadcasting about cats.” Members of CWA receive a quarterly newsletter plus access to the e-group. They also have the yearly conference, mentoring program, and yearly contest.
Conference speakers include Patricia Fry, Arden Moore, Sandy Robins, Lee Wardlaw, Melissa Kauffman, and Amy Shojai.
