Pfizer Animal Health and AVMA Announce Scholarship Program
Pfizer Animal Health and the American Veterinary Medical Foundation have announced that they are accepting applications from second- and third-year veterinary students interested in receiving a $2,000 scholarship.
Applications for the 2013 scholarship cycle are accepted until Sunday, December 2, 2012. With over 850 students in all species and areas of interest having been awarded scholarships, the program, launched in the fall of 2010, has been a huge success, according to Pfizer Animal Health.
The Pfizer Animal Health Scholarship Program will select a minimum of 330 students from both the United States and Caribbean. From December 5th, 2012 through February 28th, 2013 the application review and recipient selection will take place. Public announcement of recipients will be made at SAVMA Symposium (LSU) March 21 through March 23, 2013, with check disbursement in August.
Vanessa Mariani, director of academic and professional affairs for U.S. operations at Pfizer Animal Health, shared, “The first three years of this program have been very successful, as we awarded scholarships to students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds studying across a diverse array of species and veterinary disciplines.”
Academic record and financial need are reasons recipients are selected, according to Pfizer. A selection committee also will consider the profession’s ongoing needs, including ethnic, gender and socioeconomic diversity, and take into account students’ professional aspirations.
A total of 331 scholarships were awarded in 3012, including to 28 percent of recipients who wanted to enter small animal practice and 8 percent who planned to enter academia.
Applications will be accepted through Dec. 2 and are available at www.vetstudentconnect.com or www.avmf.org/pfizer.
