Fire Prevention Week and Pet Oxygen Masks Making Headlines
Firefighter Dayna Hilton, author of the multi- award winning critically acclaimed Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog fire safety book series encourages people to have a home fire escape plan with their pets. A year-round effort, this message becomes more poignant during Fire Prevention Week, October 7 through 13, 2012.
The theme of this year’s campaign is ,“Have 2 Ways Out!”, and stresses the importance of fire escape planning and practice. Hilton has a smoke alarm video posted on YouTube.
Each Friday morning at 9 AM CST, Dayna broadcasts a live stream, Sparkles’ Safety Spot, from the clubhouse. Sparkles’ Safety Spot is the only weekly interactive fire safety program on the web. You can chat with them live and even ask questions about fire safety and the Fire Safety Dogs. This is the kind of program teachers, moms, dads, and anyone with kids (and pets) can watch together, learn together, and stay safe together.
In related news, there are 25,947 fire departments and fire protection districts spread out in over 400,000 stations and 78,258 credentialed EMS vehicles in the United States alone. Since its inception in 2008, the O2 Fur Life Program has provided pet oxygen masks kits to more than 1,732 fire and EMS departments in the United States.
Ines de Pablo, president of Wag’N O2 Fur Life, shared, “Too many animals get injured and die every year due to preventable fire related emergencies. Incident mitigation, combined with pet oxygen mask kits, can help save countless pet lives.”
Available from Wag’n Enterprises, each Wag’N O2 Fur Life kit cost $75. Fire and EMS departments in the United States and Canada that are not budgeted for and/or cannot find sponsors to obtain this pet life saving equipment can apply to the Wag'N O2 Fur Life Fellowship Program.
