Hill’s Pet Nutrition on Tuesday announced the reformulation of its Science Diet dry food for dogs and cats along with redesigned packaging.
The brand was launched in 1968, and these new canine formulations will be shipped direct to veterinarians and to pet specialty stores starting in December. Feline diets will be released in late January or February of 2013. Hill's U.S. President Kostas Kontopanos, shared, “We took a food that already delivered precisely balanced nutrition, industry leading quality and great taste and will make it even better by adding the natural ingredients that pet parents want.”
The new formulations are in three categories and identifiable by color: The Life Style is the silver packaging, Life Stage is the white packaging, with Life Care in gold packaging. Each contains a protein (chicken, fish, or lamb meal) as their first ingredient and none of them contain chicken by-products nor artificial colors or flavors.
Pricing will remain the same and the small bags will feature a Velcro closure. All dry pet foods for the United States market are made in their own facilities, according to Hill’s, under the supervision of Hill’s employees.
The reason for the reformulation came because, according to Kontopanos, some consumers were making product choices based primarily on set criteria for ingredients, rather than the overall promise of superior nutrition, backed by clinical research.
Hill’s was founded over 60 years ago and its mission is to help enrich and lengthen the special relationships between people and their pets. They are headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, with global reach.
