ASPCA and LegalZoom Collaborate on Pet Protection Agreements
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and LegalZoom.com recently announced a combined effort to raise awareness of Pet Protection Agreements so that pet owners can be protected and plan for the future of their pets.
The name of the agreement is The Pet Protection Agreement and was created by animal law attorney Rachel Hirschfeld. The agreement allows pet owners to establishing of plan of continuing care for their animals when they are no longer able to care for them.
Jim Echikson, senior director of Corporate Partnerships for the ASPCA, reported, “Through our collaboration with LegalZoom, we hope to educate pet owners about the importance of planning for our pets in the same way we would for any other member of our family. By creating a Pet Protection Agreement through LegalZoom, our supporters are taking the essential step of planning for their pets’ future and well-being, while contributing to the ASPCA’s mission.”
LegalZoom will be donating 10 to 15 percent of the purchase price from the agreements that are purchased through the partnership to the ASPCA in support of their national programs.
In the agreement, pet owners complete a last will or living trust with LegalZoom and can leave charitable gifts to the ASPCA or designate the ASPCA as an Organization of Last Resort.
