Petco and Natural Balance Pet Foods Celebrate National Service Dog Month
In honor of September being National Service Dog month, Petco and Natural Balance Pet Foods have joined together with a fundraiser that will benefit United States organizations supporting and/or training service dogs.
Each year the fundraiser has continued to help support guide dogs, but this year funds will also be raised for all service dogs, including military working dogs. In addition, funds will be raised for the country’s first national monument honoring military working dogs.
Because this is the first time in United States history that Congress has elevated a dog to a national monument status by law, Natural Balance and Petco are strong supporters of the initiative. The National Monument will be dedicated in 2013 and features a day combat dog and its handler. The monument will be located at the 341st Training Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
All proceeds from the sale of 12-ounce Limited Edition Natural Balance Jerky Bars Treats at Petco will be donated to fund this national monument honoring Military Working Dogs. Contributions are also accepted from September 2 through September 22, 2012 via Petco or Unleashed by Petco stores or by logging on to Petco’s website.
With its first retailer store opening in 1976, PETCO’s primary customers were ranches, kennels, catteries and grooming shops. Initially launching under the name UPCO, the name was changed to PETCO so the company could better connect with the pet supply business. Currently, PETCO is privately held with more than 1,000 stores in 50 states and over 22,000 associates nationwide.
