An article released this week by the AP reports that the sales of dog treadmills are rising, with three millions dogs using them within the United States in 2012. According to the American Pet Products Association, dog treadmill sales are seeing a boom.
According to an article by AP writer, Sue Manning, a notable difference between a human treadmill and a canine treadmill is the size, because a dog's stride is longer and his body shorter than a human's, said David Ezra, the owner of Las Vegas-based dogPACER. The company plans to release a treadmill for toy dogs in September and the price also will be smaller, Ezra shared.
Ezra is the CEO of dogPACER, with a history in the health and fitness industry along with Internet marketing and banking. He has been featured in many media sources like The New York Times, Miami Herald, The Wall Street Journal, Las Vegas Review Journal, FOX-TV and ABC-TV, and In Business Las Vegas' Who's Who in Southern Nevada. The company was founded in 2010 by David Ezra and Yaniv Rosenberg.
Touted as compact, affordable and high quality, the price point is $499. Constructed of reinforced lightweight steel with a computerized screen, the dogPACER has four incline positions, has a range of speeds from 0.5 to 7.5 miles per hour, and is lightweight at 79 pounds.
In her AP article, Manning reported that Pennsylvania-based GoPet has canine treadmills and a treadwheel, which resembles a large hamster wheel, ranging in prices from $475 to $1,225.
Some dog trainers across the country are using treadmills to make animals more adoptable by using the treadmills two to three times a week.
