Alissa Wolf is a journalist and life-long animal lover. As a writer for About.com, a part of The New York Times Company, Alissa has been a pet parent to every manner of furry, finned and feathered creatures: A dog, birds, gerbils, a rabbit, fish and several cats. I currently am mom to a dashingly handsome black cat named Omar.
She attended Glassboro State College (now Rowan University) in New Jersey, and then transferred to New York University, where she received a B.A. in Journalism.
“My mission is to provide the most comprehensive, up-to-date information to those in the pet industry, so that they may better serve these beloved creatures,” Wolf said. “As a journalist, I have had many opportunities to write about and help draw awareness to our need to cherish, respect and provide the best care for pets and animals in general.”
Wolf has worked as an editor, columnist and correspondent for numerous regional and national newspapers and magazines. Most recently, she was editor-in-chief of Adventure in the Smokies, a lifestyles and features magazine that served the Smoky Mountains region of Western North Carolina, where she had many opportunities to write about wildlife. She also was editor-in-chief of Atlantic City Weekly; associate editor of Atlantic City Magazine; long-time columnist for The Newark Star-Ledger and Asbury Park Press; general features correspondent for The Philadelphia Inquirer and many others.
She received two awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations for promotional feature writing in 2008. Wolf is currently is working on a book about cat nutrition.
