A new monthly service to deliver dog waste bags to pet owners has launched. Dubbed The Poop Bag Club, the membership-based website allows dog owners the opportunity to have bags sent to them regularly. It features three auto shipment plans, two types of waste bags, and a free dispenser with the customer’s first shipment.
Members can select from three plans based on the number of dog walks they take each day. After choosing the type of bag they prefer – either the standard eco-friendly bag, which breaks down in about 24 months in a landfill, or the premium compostable bag, which breaks down in as little as 40 days, the order is set. The eco-friendly bags have ASTM D6954-04 certification, with the compostable bags meeting ASTM 6400 gold eco-certification, and they comply with California's SB1749 law.
Poop Bag Club co-owner, Danielle Mead, shared, “Any dog owner who walks their dog regularly needs poop bags, so we saw an opportunity to provide a service that is convenient and affordable. Our goal is to reduce the amount of dog waste left on neighborhood streets while doing it in a way that is earth-friendly."
Mead shared that plastic bags from the grocery store are not biodegradable and can take hundreds of years to decompose. She reports that some cities, including Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland are banning single-use plastic bags.
Plans with the company begin at $10 per month and can be canceled or changed at any time. Since dog waste may carry worms, can pollute local water sources, and spread bacteria into the air, the founders of Poop Bag Club believe this is a needed product for dog owners to have.
Mead and her husband, filmmaker Matthew Goodman, are the founders of The Poop Bag Club and also own WelcomeMutt.com.
