Outside Magazine Names Honest Kitchen to Top 100 List
Outside magazine recently announced their fifth annual list of the best places to work, with San Diego, California company, The Honest Kitchen, garnering the 19th spot.
The Honest Kitchen, manufacturer of all-natural dehydrated whole foods for dogs and cats, reported having 20 employees (plus twelve office dogs). They took on a minority investment to raise capital so they could hire additional staff and expand their marketing and sales outreach.
Lucy Postins, co-founder and CEO of The Honest Kitchen, shared, “Taking good care of our employees and nurturing a working environment that places an emphasis on health, creativity, diversity–and pets–has been important to me for a long time.”
Their kitchen is fully equipped and they have a communal dining table along with lots of seating at the Honest Kitchen offices. They use it for meetings and feasts and to serve as a test kitchen for their pet food creations. All of their dogs participate.
The Honest Kitchen is the only company on the Outside magazine top 100 list for 2012 to be involved with pets or pet products. Outside honed in on companies that set standards for a healthy balance between work and life. The “Best Places to Work” list was completed with the assistance of the Outdoor Industry Association of Boulder, Colorado, and Best Companies Group of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, a workplace assessment firm, according to Pet Product News.
Scores were tabulated for the Outside magazine list from employee questionnaires, workplace benefits, compensation, policies, job satisfaction, and more. Many companies that made the list included things like free fitness classes, out-of-office time, and flexible hours.
