PetZen Products was recently selected to receive a Small Business Recognition nomination by the Ogden Small Business Development Center. The company represents one of the 11 businesses selected throughout the entire state of Utah.
PetZen is located in the Wasatch Mountains of Ogden, Utah, and is a marketer, manufacturer, designer and distributor of pet products that began in 2008. They sell their products through outlets such as Amazon, Petco, Frontgate and Brookstone, as well as providing direct-to-consumer sales through their website.
In 2011, “America’s Vet,” Dr. Marty Becker, shared in a winter segment on Good Morning America that dogs can be kept active indoors all winter long with something like the PetZen Dog Treadmill. “An indoor dog treadmill makes it easy to incorporate daily exercise anytime, anywhere and in any weather,” said Dr. Becker. This portable device is easy to store in a small space and is safe for dogs to use. It provides the perfect solution for keeping dogs healthy and in shape during the winter months.”
The co-owners of PetZen, Krista Wickens and Don Standing, have been selected for the business nomination due to PetZen’s economic and service contributions to the community of Ogden.
“In business, it’s not always about what you get,” Wickens told an Ogden newspaper. “It’s about what you can give as well.”
Some of the products in the PetZen line include the canine treadmill, which is free of any leash-binding mechanisms as other canine treadmills may have. PetZen also sells items like travel gear, water bowls, bottles, and leashes.
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Ogden has been a pivotal part of the business’ launch, according the PetZen founders. They were able to ascertain help writing a business plan, access funding opportunities, and receive no-cost business consulting through SBDC of Ogden.
