A Des Moines, Iowa based company, BOGO Bowl, launched this summer as a pet food company with the buy one, give one model. For every bag of the high quality food that purchased, BOGO Bowl will donate a matching bag of food to a dog in need at no additional cost.
Sara Henderson is the CEO and brainchild behind the company, which is poised to go national. BOGO Bowl sells seven types of dog food online and contributes food to shelter partners across the United States, with a buy one, give one concept. Customers purchase a bag of BOGO Bowl premium dog food, which is made in the United States, and a second bag is donated to a shelter of the customer’s choice at no additional cost.
“I got the idea for the business while serving as the President and Programs Chair of The Pet Project Midwest,” Henderson stated. “I saw the constant need for food, which helps shelters keep costs down so fewer animals are euthanized.”
The price points of BOGO Bowl are similar to other premium dog food brands, ranging from between $41 and $63 for a 20-pound bag. At present, residents of Des Moines, Iowa, can purchase the food at the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. National distribution through online sales and at shelters and rescues will coincide with the launch of the BOGO Bowl website next week.
BOGO Bowl premium dog food is produced in Ohio, with protein, fruit, and vegetables, and contains no artificial fillers, colors, or flavors. In addition, Henderson reports there is no corn, wheat, or soy used as filler. The starches in BOGO Bowl dog food are encapsulated to ensure less fermentation in the dog’s body, and hip healthy vitamins are included in most formulas.
In larger markets, BOGO Bowl plans to partner with multiple shelters so customers will have the option to donate the food to a specific shelter or have the donation go to any shelter in need. With an initial 1,500 bowls of food donated to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, the company’s nationwide launch
All BOGO Bowl formulas meet AAFCO criteria for healthy, quality pet food. Formulas included Puppy, Maintenance, Healthy Weight, Lamb Meal and Rice, Chicken Meal and Rice, Salmon Meal and Rice, and No Grain.
