According to results from a recent the American Automobile Association (AAA) and Best Western, 51 percent of travelers with pets would like to bring their pets along on every vacation. The study included 10,000 people who traveled with their pet(s) in the last 12 months.
Top considerations in travel plans with pets include finding locations that accept pets (95 percent), learning about pet policies and rules in general (49 percent), and getting details about specific pet services (22 percent). A quarter of pet travelers surveyed they have skipped the planning aspect and instead snuck their pet into a hotel or motel at some point.
Once again, AAA has released its Traveling with Your Pet: The AAA PetBook, available in both digital and print version. The listings include AAA approved and diamond-rated lodgings throughout Canada and the United States. Listings include fees, pet sizes, conditions of stay, and any possible pet amenities. There are over 600 pet-friendly campgrounds included plus dog parks, attractions, and public lands where pets are permitted. Best Western offers over 1,600 pet-friendly properties across the globe.
In terms of behavioral considerations, respondents revealed that owners not cleaning up after pets is a concern (77 percent), with constantly barking dogs another concern (57 percent), and unleashed pets making the list at 49 percent. Other issues include pets that are not obedience trained, owners not notifying that their pet is aggressive with other people and/or pets, and pets not trained to relieve themselves outside.
