Teva Animal Health, located in St. Joseph, Missouri, announced the release of a new chewable tablet supplement for animals. “Alenza” is a supplement that contains a biovlavonoid formulation from antioxidants and the plants Scutellaria baicalensis and Acacia catechu.
Alenza is being regarded as the first supplement of its kind to address “moderate discomfort” in animals.
Hal Sinclair, of Teva Animal Health’s Veterinary Commercial Services, shared, “That is the missing gap we have addressed with the ‘Whole Body Comfort’ category by using ingredients that can be safely used on an ongoing basis.”
Though designed to support metabolic processes throughout a dog’s body for ongoing comfort and quality of life in normal daily activities, it is also touted as helpful to aging pets for supporting immune function and joint flexibility, along with helping postoperative recovery and/or during rehabilitation.
The supplement does not require an initial loading dose and is available in dose-specific formulations so that small, medium, and large dogs may benefit.
Teva reports that whole body comfort may be achieved by modulating multiple pathways of inflammation and managing the negative effects of free radicals, cytokines and arachidonic acid.
In addition, the company announced the launch of Lactoquil Soft Chews designed to support gastrointestinal health in dogs. They are a combination of prebiotics and probiotics to help maintain microflora balance in dog’s GI tract. The chews may be dispensed as a daily treat for dogs.
The company is presently investing in a comprehensive, phased renovation of their facilities and brining in cGMP manufacturing capabilities to assist in their goals. They believe this will help position the company to focus on branded products along with generics for the United States animal health care market.
