IBIS World has released a report on the dry pet food production industry to their collection of findings.
The report reveals that the number of American dogs and cats declined in 2010 and is expected to have grown slowly since then. IBIS World reports that the total number of dogs and cats will reach an all-time high at 173 million in 2012. In turn, the dry pet food production industry, the report revealed, is moving toward an interconnected trade system with import and exports rising over the past five years and forecast to rise over the next five.
It is reported that major companies like major companies include Nestle SA, Mars Inc. and the Colgate-Palmolive Company are growing from expansion through acquisitions. In addition, dry dog food industry revenue is expected to rise in the five years up to 2017. Higher profits, in turn, are expected to draw in new firms to the industry.
IBIS World shared that there is plenty of room for niche players including organic dry pet food producers. Industry participants to the market can generate more revenue and increase profit margins with dry dog and cat food because they can sell to retailers at higher rates than they would to wholesalers.
The dry pet food industry, as defined by IBIS World, manufactures dry dog and cat foods, which are generally grain and oilseed based.
