This Friday, June 22, is being touted as “Take Your Dog to Work Day” across America. For this annual event, created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) in 1999, dogs are welcome to go to work with their owners.
The event was created to celebrate our companion animal friends and asks pet lovers to take their dogs to work and support pet adoption in doing so. The entire week of June 18 through June 22 has been dubbed “Take Your Pet to Work Week.”
Fresh Patch, a company that specializes in indoor grass needs for dogs, is celebrating this special day on June 22. Andrew Feld, the founder of Fresh Patch, reported, “The grass is plush, long-lasting, and dirt-free—plus it controls odors. These are qualities that are appreciated not only in the home setting for which Fresh Patch was initially designed, but also in offices, and in hotels when dog-owners are traveling.”
The American Pet Products Association reported recently that approximately 2.3 million dogs go to work with their 1.4 million owners daily. Feld shared that having an area where dogs can relieve themselves indoors is more likely to help companies to transition and accept pets in the workplace. Fresh Patch also helps promote and encourage a dog’s presence at work year round.
Pet Sitters International, who created the special yearly day, is a company with nearly 7,000 members. In 2010, member businesses of PSI received over 18.5 million pet sitting services.
