Pet behavior and lifestyle product manufacturer, PetSafe, has named its 15 nationwide finalists in their “Bark for Your Park” contest. The contest will award $100,000 to one community in the country and $25,000 each to two additional cities with the goal of building local dog parks.
Headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee since its inception in 1991, PetSafe has over 400 employees who are allowed to bring their dogs to work daily. The company made its debut with the In-Ground Radio Fence system and is now home to SportDOG brand and other brands like Premier Pet Products, Drinkwell Pet Fountains, and Innotek training products.
The fifteen finalists include Allentown, PA; Auburn, NY; Bloomington, IN; Bluffton, SC; Derby, VT; Essex, VT; Hernando, MS; Lynchburg, VA; Mountain House, CA; Oak Forest, IL; Orland Park, IL; Oxford, MS; Temple, TX; Texarkana, AR; and Westfield, IN.
Randy Boyd, president and CEO of Radio Systems Corporation, maker of the PetSafe brand, shared, “With more than 1,000 cities nominated, we are elated with this showing of the nation's passion for pet-friendly initiatives like dog parks. We're very excited for our 15 finalist cities, but we loved hearing the 'barks' from all the city supporters across the U.S. No matter the outcome of this year's contest, we hope you'll continue to 'bark' for your park."
To be a finalist, nominated cities had to verify land availability, provide appropriate documentation, demonstrate community support through online votes, and this ensured communities of all sizes had an equal opportunity to compete.
The contest now is turned over to the voting public. Dog park enthusiasts and city supporters can vote from June 15 through August 1 and can vote twice a day: once via www.petsafe.net and once via the PetSafe Facebook page.
