Mobile Outdoor Store For Dogs Takes to the Streets
Thursday, Jun 14, 2012 9:15 am
Great OutDogs recently launched their first mobile pet store in the Austin, Texas, area. The “store” is stocked with over 1,250 outdoor-related products for dogs designed for those who like to hike, bike, swim, fetch, run, and/or walk with their dogs.
Matt Edwards is the 28-year-old entrepreneur behind the idea. He recently shared in an interview with Statesman.com that he plans to turn Great OutDogs into a franchise, taking it to Portland, Oregon; San Diego; and possibly Canada. He runs the mobile store and is continuing to increase his social media presence while marketing his website.
The mobile store was once a tool truck that traveled around Edwards’ hometown, Byhalia, according to statesman.com. The business is the first mobile retail truck that has been granted a temporary concession permit by the City of Austin so that they can operate on parkland.
In addition to growing his online and mobile store, Edwards shared that they also give back to the community and partner with multiple charities and non-profits around the Austin area. He revealed to the statesman.com that his interest in selling outdoor products came after noticing his niche market (outdoor dog products) was not being served locally. He also felt this was a way to address the dog obesity problem in the United States.
Reportedly, Edwards says the store is doing well, and realizes that people’s affection for their dogs explains the continuing spending and growing trends in the pet industry. Categories of items available from Great OutDogs include those for travel, coats and outerwear, hiking and biking, collars and leashes, safety and protection, walk and run gadgets, hunting, house containment, and more.
