PetRelocation.com Reveals Annual Summer Pet Travel Survey Results
PetRelocation.com has announced the results of its third annual Summer Pet Travel Survey, with a total of 47 percent of respondents planning to travel with their pets in the next three months.
PetRelocatiion.com was formed in Austin, Texas, in 2004 and offers door-to-door pet travel services by using pet-friendly airlines domestically and internationally. Each year, they assist in relocating (moving) hundreds of pets worldwide. The company reports that though travel trends have fluctuated, pet travel popularity is holding steady.
Amongst the results revealed, around 25 percent of respondents said they travel with their cats, with a total of 85 percent saying they will travel with a dog when taking to the roads in 2012. These numbers are up from 2011, when 58 percent said they traveled with a dog and 22 percent with cats.
Of the prohibitive factors involved, 40 percent reported there are not enough pet-friendly hotels from which to choose. One of the most difficult aspects of traveling with a pet includes hotel fees and lack of adequate pet-friendly airlines.
Safety came in as a top concern for pet travelers, as 60 percent of respondents reported that is a top concern in their pet traveling planning, with convenience coming in second, and a total of 15 percent reporting pricing as a number one concern.
Regarding changing travel plans to accommodate their pet(s), 90 percent said they would do so and more than half (57 percent) reported they would choose a hotel based on its pet-friendly aspects.
On average, 42 percent reported traveling annually with their pet, with 15 percent stating monthly, and 37 percent stating every few years. Thirty percent of people reported traveling internationally with their pet, with 27 percent choosing an airline due to its pet-friendly policy.
