Actor David Duchovny, from the Showtime series "Californication," recently filmed a public service announcement supporting 600milllion.org's effort to develop a pill that would safely sterilize stray dogs and thereby reduce population growth.
In the PSA, Duchovny says the pharmaceutical work need to develop such a pill is expensive, and asks for donations in the development of the pill. Other celebrities supporting the effort include Eric Roberts and Estella Warren.
The website, 600million.org, was created by Alex Pacheco, who co-founded People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals 25 years ago. The name of the organization comes from the estimated 600 million stray dogs who exist around the world on any given day, giving birth to between one and three billion puppies each year—many, many of which are tortured or inhumanely killed, and live in horrible conditions. For more information and to give a donation go to www.600million.org.
