The KONG Company has announced the launch of its KONG Pets Need to Play campaign, targeting the increase of shelter animals in need nationwide.
KONG will be installing the iPet Companion in animal shelters nationwide, which enable users worldwide to play with cats that are available for adoption over the web. They will also be donating classic red rubber KONG toys to dogs at the shelters so they can enjoy the toys as well.
KD Frueh, president of KONG, shared, “At KONG our chief dedication is animals, and a big part of that is giving back to the animal shelter community by encouraging adoption of these animals and supporting their well being while they await their forever homes. In our increasingly digital society, we felt there was no better way to reach the public and encourage adoption than by connecting these animals directly with people through the interactive iPet Companion virtual play system."
The iPet Companion will be in shelters nationwide for six week periods of time. The iPet Companion is licensed exclusively by KONG and lets online users play with animals remotely via a few clicks of the mouse and robotic toys. Video cameras will capture the fun as cats chase and play with the toys. By showcasing adoptable cats and allowing people to play with them virtually, the goal is increased cat adoption rates.
For shelters already participating with the iPet Companion program, positive media coverage has been received along with higher cat adoption rates and increased website traffic, according to KONG. “In our increasingly digital society, we felt there was no better way to reach the public and encourage adoption than by connecting these animals directly with people through the interactive iPet Companion virtual play system,” Frueh said.
