Pedigree Brand dog food recently donated 3,000 pounds of dog food to the West Suburban Humane Society in Chicago. The shelter typically goes through 200 pounds of dog food a week, so the donation could conceivably last for a few months.
West Suburban Humane Society is the only local shelter among 10 across the country selected to receive donations of food. Because of the poor economy, cash donations at West Suburban have dropped in recent years. The donation was a part of Pedigree's campaign seeking publicity for a newly revamped dog food line.
Ironically, the shelter was slated to receive 10,000 pounds of dog food, but had to turn away 7,000 pound of because of space limitations. Officials at the shelter said the remaining dog food will donated to shelters near tornado-devastated Joplin. Mo. For every user who goes online and makes a post to the Pedigree Brand dog food Twitter or Facebook account about what “every dog deserves” the company will donate one pound of food.
