Canidae Pet Foods recently announced the unveiling of a new pet food manufacturing facility in Brownwood, Texas. The facility is named Ethos Pet Nutrition.
The new plant will have an onsite quality and safety laboratory along with an automated extrusion system with safety protocols and regulatory compliance. Canidae representatives report these improvements are all a part of the process to manufacture nutritious natural pet foods.
Scott Whipple and John Gordon began the company years ago in an effort to keep their pet food store in business after a national pet food chain moved into the neighborhood. Currently more than 7,000 pet food retailers carry Canidae pet food. The company was also the recipient of the General Entrepreneur Award from the 9th Annual Spirit of the Entrepreneur Awards held in Riverside, California.
Co-founders Whipple and Gordon shared, “Since we started Canidae our goal has always been to make the highest quality pet foods possible. Your continued support of our products within the industry has allowed us to take this next step in our company’s growth."
Once the final round of quality assurance trials have been completed, more information about the new facility will be available. Final production tests at the facility will be run next month, according to Canidae officials.
In March of 2011, Canidae purchased an existing extrusion plant and has spent the last year rebuilding it, according to Director of Operations Frank Hon.
As part of their commitment to food safety, all Canidae and Felidae products are made in the United States using U.S. ingredients. Their formulations are produced in FDA, AAFCO, and USDA approved facilities from USDA inspected meats processed in a human-grade facility. All of their pet food formulas require in-line testing during the production runs and are cleared with a second supervisor every 30 minutes. With 141 ingredient tests and 10 finished product test performed on the foods, a sample of each of the finished foods is sent to their research and development center for testing by a third party lab.

What about the vitamins? I understand that almost all vitamins (for pets AND humans) are now manufactured in CHINA. Please confirm or deny that the vitamins added to your dog food are manufactured in CHINA, or the US.
