The 19th Annual ReptileFest will be held at the University of Illinois at Chicago Physical Education Building on April 14-April 15, 2012. The two-day event is hosted by the Chicago Herpetological Society (CHS) and runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
Included in the event will be dozens of animal conservation groups and private collectors displaying their animals. Some other ReptileFest highlights include hands-on access to lizards, snakes, turtles, and amphibians; photo opportunities; interactive turtle pen; events geared at children, such as face painting; educational lectures; access to veterinarians; and reptile-themed merchandise for sale. Animals will not be for sale at this event.
Setup for vendors begins on Friday, April 13 at 5 p.m. and continues Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Price for a 6-foot table is $60 a day or both days for $100. Exhibitor information and show guidelines may be found on The Chicago Herpetological Society website and/or by contacting CHS President, Jason Hood, at reptilefestinfo@gmail.com or 847-361-7363.
Vendors are assigned a specific area and must confine displays to the area. Feeder animals and dry goods may be sold by vendors. The ReptileFest coordinators reserve the right to modify vendor guidelines or request removal of any animal throughout the show.
Cost to attend the show is $10 for adults and youth and $7 for children ages 3 to 11, with admission being free to infants and toddlers under three years of age.
The Chicago Herpetological Society is touted as the nation’s oldest and largest herpetological society and serves to educate the public about reptiles and amphibians. CHS hosts live animal shows throughout the year for groups in the Chicagoland area, including the Chicago Cultural Center and The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. They also provide financial support in Illinois for herpetologic scientific research.
